Factors of Performance
Two things to remember:
It’s the system and it’s the system.
What I want to reinforce before we touch upon each of our C2 Skills:
Dynamic Inquiry:
-Ping
-Probe
-Prompt
-Permit
-Perturb
-Pause
…is a path that you need to keep in mind as you apply those skills and that is like having IOS running in the background when you use safari the internet browser.
While you can’t see DOS or IOS, they are right there in the background with you every step of the way, just like the COACH2 Operating System [COS] behind the C2 Skills!
I’ll show you this COS soon but now let’s remind you of the factors of performance by W. Edwards Deming.
~Individual Ability
~Individual Effort
~Training and Development
~Variation in the System
~Variation in your Appraisal by Management
Do you know which one is in control of the person, and by some measures, not as much as you might think?
If you chose: INDIVIDUAL EFFORT you are correct. All of the others are emergent from the system, and the more I coach, the more I realize that even effort (some are making references to “engagement”) is largely out of the control of the person!
Whether you agree or not, C2 is a systems approach for that very reason. The C2 Skills are super simple, but ON THE OTHER SIDE of complexity, as Holmes might say.
So what is this COS? That’s the topic of our next CAC2S – COACH2 System.
If you’re reading this out of order, the index of CAC2S is HERE.
