Mike – Lori Interaction
Mike: Hi Lori, it’s Mike. I know we are far away from each other and it’s at the end of the program but I thought I would just spend a minute with you in an interaction to where we could talk about the ping, probe, prompt, permit and perturb or dynamic Inquiry. Is there some thought that you have come to mind?
Lori: The pinging and prompting seems very similar to me and I know it even said that in the paper that I read but I’m still having a little trouble sorting the pinging and the prompting.
Mike: Do you mean pinging and probing?
Lori: Maybe, yah, now that you say that, yes. Yes. Ah, yes.
Mike: Here’s what we will do. Next time, I’ll try to explain what a ping is, but let me demonstrate that. Is there something really important to you now?
Lori: Improving my interactions with others for growth.
Mike: What’s important about that?
Lori: I, I feel like there is a lot I need to share and I see that nursing is losing some of its stewardship and I think this approach helps me clarify how to share how important that is with other nurses.
Mike: Is there something important about that?
Lori: Oh, I just, my sense of is we are losing the giving aspect of nursing and it’s not even about the business. It’s just that we are handing it off. Ahmm, and nurses are leaving because they’re not having that innate aahh oh that response that generates you being willing to do what it takes to help a patient, ah, do well. It’s easier to leave than to put up with that.
Mike: Has that happened with you?
Lori: With me, no.
Mike: You’re in there, you’re in there til you die…
Lori: Yes, [laughter] I think so…
Mike: OK, let’s stop there.
