Welcome to LeaderWARE @F-L-O-W. First, let me summarize quickly where I’ve led you this far.

Self-Awareness is Key, elevation is a way of leading from the right leader distance above Solution-resistant problems, and

LeaderWARE is a tool kit for developing more robust vertical, oblique, and lateral responses using self-knowledge.

Second, leaders under conditions of accelerating complexity MUST take responsibilities for their own development, regardless of what’s going on around them.

Third, you will need to work in seven areas at once if you can.

I created seven dynamic tools that are going to help guide you in vertical, oblique, and lateral development depending on the level of leadership required.

I’ll end this video by listing for you the seven dynamic areas of leader development under conditions of accelerating complexity.

Later in future microcasts, I’ll come back to offer a more in-depth explanation of what’s happening in these areas and how to engage.

What’s all this “elevator jazz” anyway?

For 3 decades I’ve been studying why people fail and succeed in leader roles.

Here’s what I’ve found:

  • When leaders fail, it’s because of two reasons; lack of Self-Awareness and not solving the right problems; and

  • When leaders succeed, it’s because of two reasons; self-awareness and solving the right problems.

So where does elevation fit in the leader success and failure?

Simply put, it’s self-awareness and solving problems at each level of work holistically.

It boils down to “how do we know” and “what do we do about we know, don’t know and don’t know we know?”

And that’s elevation.

Hi, Mike Jay again no shades this time but back with an answer as I promised

The question was about the meaning of elevating leadership, right?

First, let me give context on why elevating your leadership makes sense.

Remember, I mentioned Solution Resistant Problems?

Those kinds of problems that can’t be solved using the same assumptions that created them?


Look at this drawing.

Notice that the elevator stops at each level and opens a door at that level?


Notice also that each level is self contained and separate from the level above and below?


There is a reason for this in construction is well as leadership.

Each level of leadership is also constructed on a set of assumptions about how things work.

When problems become increasingly complex,  more variables are involved and there are delays between cause and effect.

Solution-resistance arise as we meet the ends of each levels assumption.


To solve all of the problem we must elevate, or move up a level of leadership.

Now there is more to this than it appears, so I need to come back in the next video and explain what I mean.

But Accelerating Complexity has a lot to do with what’s happening now.

Complexity is affecting leadership in ways most of us can’t imagine.

Leaders, now, near and far will face what I call solution-resistant problems.

These kinds of problems occur when the solution to the problem is not complex enough to solve all the problem.


Like this goo I’m squeezing problem leaks out to make a more complex problem.

The only way to deal with solution-resistant problems is to elevate.

What do I mean by elevate? I’ll answer that question in my next video stay tuned.
